The 2007 Infohrm Workforce Planning Summit

The inaugural Workforce Planning Summit was a great success! Dr. John Sullivan kicked off the day with his session entitled: “Workforce Planning: HR’s Urgent Priority” that set the tone for the entire day. Dr. Sullivan’s pragmatic approach to workforce planning energized much of the audience and elicited lots of table conversations. Anastasia Ellerby, Infohrm’s Managing Director for Asia-Pacific Region, followed Dr. Sullivan and provided attendees with insights into the critical success factors in a workforce planning program. With over 12 years experience and 40-plus workforce planning projects, Anastasia was able to outline a clear 4 step process for workforce planning success. Following Anastasia, Kari Trost and Merryl Rees of The Hartford presented their case study of successful workforce planning within an organization, which resonated well with the Summit’s attendees. Much of their discussion centered around using workforce planning to facilitate improvements in the financial results of The Hartford’s business – which creates a bottom line impact for profitability and increases HR’s visibility within the organization.

After lunch, Dan Hilbert, formerly the Managing Director of Workforce Planning at Valero Energy, provided a jolt of energy to the audience with this unique presentation style – Dan showed that through workforce planning organizations are able to statistically predict workforce and business events. It was a great example of the impact predictive modeling has on the HR profession. Jeff Higgins from Countrywide Financial followed Dan and provided excellent financial insights into some of the strategies and results currently employed at Countrywide. Jeff walked through several models of workforce planning and the opportunities and risks associated with each model. Peter Howes closed the session with his perspective on where workforce planning is headed and talked specifically about the concepts of career-pathing and workforce segmentation.

The Summit closed with cocktails and appetizers in the lobby, during which attendees networked with each other and Infohrm personnel provided demos of our workforce planning & analytics applications. Ultimately, the Summit was a great success that we're looking forward to hosting again next year!
